the situation is this:
Shes got a lovely pony on loan WVTB. Hes incredibly talented. A jumping machine. However, shes moving away to wales (were currently in SE engalnd) and needs to decide whether to take him with her or not. Obviously she needs to talk to the owners of this pony first but wondered what you lot might think!!!.
She does want to buy him as they get on really well. HOWEVER. Hes ridiculously nervous. Hes hard to groom and sometimes freaks out at the dust from a haynet. He doesnt just spook he leaps into the air, hes reared before and spins. Shes been riding about 2 and a half years. And a year and a half of that was in a riding school during uni term time (30 weeks a yr). The rest was a part loan 20yr old pony. Im concerned that hes too much for her so soon! Hes a lovely boy, hes not vicious but he certainly puts himself first and when scared does not give a s*** about anyone or anything near him. Hes broke metal clean in half, broke fences etc. He cant be hunted as hes dangerous. Can also sometimes be a nightmare to catch. So far, they have done ok, but shes a nervous wreck out hacking and when she moves away shes moving away from everyone horsey that she knows and really will be going it alone. But, they have improved together. He is less nervous now than he was and my friend is determined that he can improve more. Im worried its rose tinted glasses and all that. I really want her to be happy but would never forgive myself if he spooked and she came off and was seriously injured. She fell off in walk the other day cos he spooked and shes just coming around from a broken collar bone ( this was another horse though!!) If she doesnt take him, she might regret it forever, chances of finding anopther pony she can afford that she has such an affinity with and actually has so much potential arent great. But should her safety come first? Ive been riding nearly 15yrs and i wouldnt be happy on him!
Should she take him with her or not?! He does have potential and he is sound. Hes in her price range and lets say not many are!
I feel like i need to advise one way or the other but i cant decide for the life of me which way to go! One way, she moves away, finds a fat pony thatll live on air and she builds back her confidence but perhaps regrets this forever. Or takes him, and risks her life but there is a chance he will improve.
Urgh!
