OK. My cousin has a 9mo English Bull Terrier dog which is basically out of control. She paid hundreds of pounds to send him away to be trained for 3 weeks and then didn't follow any of their advice and so said dog just takes the P out of her. He has also bitten her, her husband and a friend of theirs. He humps everything in sight, doesn't come back when he's called and weighs about 45kgs. Last time she brought him to my house he was 6 months old and was a right pain. I have 3 bitches - 2 whippets and a lab. My lab hates him - she growls at him and she has never growled at any other dog since I got her (she's 7) My whippets are completely terrified of him, and my cats practically left home!!! Problem is, she wants to come racing with us next weekend and I need to tell her that the dog is not welcome in my house before/after racing. He can stay in my spare stable, but I really don't want him to upset my dogs/cats. So how do I tell her without totally offending her??

There is no need for you to be nice about this! Your cousin sounds like she has had every chance and being nice is going to confuse an already very very dangerous situation. I would be completely up front and tell her that you will not jeaopordise any of your animals and your safety as they dog can not be controlled. I would also be very frank and tell her that if she does not remedy this situation soon she will be staring down the barrel of many threatened court proceedings and one that might result in the destruction of her dog. I am so sorry as you obviously are a kind person but kindness needs to stop now and reality kick in!
Best of luck!

I know I've got to tell it like it is. The dog is a disaster and has been from the start. She actually wanted a whippet or Italian Greyhound but was persuaded to get an EBT by her husband (who knows nothing about dogs and has never owned one before - AND is never at home to deal with said dog) She needs a reality check - just not sure I want to be the one to give it!!!

...I would certainly not take the chance with it being around your dogs and cats, esp if he is not well socialised with other animals...these are powerfull dogs and as you describe they seem to have no control over him

....agree tell them outright....you are concerned for the safety of your pets, or as suggested your dog is hacking and weezing..poss startof kennel cough

Have they checked to see if he can hear/that he is not deaf..we have had a few white E.B.T's in that have been deaf...

Just tell her...
I have a friend with a (lovely) lab and terrier, when they're at mine unless the chickens are shut in the dogs have to be shut in as don't trust a strange dog with them.
I don't think she minds, they're not over often, in fact maybe once!
Any strange dogs are closely supervised due to the chickens.

I'd tell her straight! I have a close friend who has an afghan hound who is sweet and mental but also quite nasty with certain dogs and the first time she stayed my old 44kg lurcher wouldn't come downstairs if he was in the house, so I told her it's not worth the unpleasantness it could cause and she can't bring him. Word it in such a way that it sounds like you're doing HER a favour
