Once again I have made a right mess of cutting cobs tail. It is incredibly thick and coarse. I have tried various methods, wetting it, cutting it in sections, but still as he walks away from me I can see it is uneven . Any fail safe tips ?

Use a good set of clippers.

Put your arm under the dock, and pull the tail down in to a 'pony tale'. Pick up the end, and have the bottom of it (the bit you want trimmed) turned up to the sky. Get the clippers - and run it over the end.

Job done

Did wonder if this would work but I need about 4 inches taking Off! I get to the stage like evening up the wobbly table leg, keeping taking a bit off and a bit off and before I know it he'll be docked !

I agree, you need clippers. My horse has a huge tail and there is no way I would attempt to trim it with scissors.

Amyway's description is spot on and you will get a nice neat tail.
