Trimming Feathers

Hi

Just got my first cob this week

I'm so happy with him, he is just perfect for me and I love him already.

He has quite a lot of feather which I would like to trim a little. Does anyone have any tips for taking a little off and making sure it still looks a little natural? I have seen feathers that look like they have been scalped and we want to avoid that look.

a tail rake will thin the hair and not give a `cut` appearance.

As a fellow owner of a hairy , i get the scissors out and grab the ends of the feathers and cut up into them with the scissor blades lying in the same direction as the hair lies if that makes sense so you trim but do not get a straight line edge at the bottom, remember don't take too much off and do it on dry feathers

Whilst for me, more hair the better, if you really wanted to thin the hair (feather) use one of the thinning rakes to carefully thin out as you would a mane.

I have just trimmed Jake's feathers as the lower part had been burned off with bog burn and I wanted to tidy him up.

I cut them going up the leg and not to close to the skin, just a trim rather than taking the whole lot off.

Thinning scissors are also a good idea, things the feathers without cutting all of them off.

My advice would be not to trim it! lol! The hairyer the better!
