Hi,
I have a hairy cob who I'd like to do a bit of local showing with. He has a glorious long mane and thick tail, but unfortunately had to have his feathers clipped due to mites (they are growing back now).
How much should I trim him up for local shows? Should I trim his tail? At the moment its about 2 inches from the floor cut straight across. Should I trim his whiskers? Some people have said it's cruel to cut whiskers off horses, but I have always done it in the past?
Thanks in advance. x

Nothing you can do about the feather but wait, sadly. I'm sure they will be glorious when through though.
Don't trim the tail straight across. It needs to look 'natural'..... when I shorten Star's (because she tends to stand on it if it gets too long), I use scissors and chop roughly, upwards. this gives a very uneven, more natural look. ?Try this to break up the straight line? Don't get carried away though and take too much off the length, easily done :D

I trim under Star's jaw, to give a cleaner line, and her ears, but not the inside. I do leave whiskers on, because she is not exactly going to HOYS, but many people will take the whiskers off.
I do take her moustache off though. (Girls shouldn't have moustaches :D)
