Trimming up virgin

So this is pretty embarrassing - after years upon years of having horses, I’ve never pulled a tail! Always had natives so just done a bit of discreet trimming and tidying up. I can do a decent mane but not a tail!

Collecting my potential show cob in a week and have zero clue on what to do with his unruly tail...is there an idiots guide? I believe it‘s cut a few inches below the hock? I’ll be hogging and taking feather off, all good with that. Am I better off using a solo comb or something along those lines?

Get a tail rake. Personally I don't pull manes or tails.

Tail rake, or, I must confess, I do my hunters tail with the clippers :O But it requires a happy horse, confidence and a steady hand
