No questions on this post just a worrying one! My boy got a nasty kick 6 weeks ago on the inside of his knee on his front leg. Had to have proud flesh cut off and cut has healed nicely but still very swollen and it's very pointy. Vet thinks there could be some floating bone in there so we're off to the vets for x rays. Just gutted, he's such a lovely boy and was hoping to do some cross country on him. Vet seems to think we'll be able to do light schooling and hacking but that's about it. I'm still happy with that but like I said just gutted for me but even more so for him :( He's totally sound on the leg by the way, just slight soreness when vet has flexed it.

Chin up my love, get the x-rays out of the way and take it from there, don't write him off just yet as vet just wants to know why he's still lame. Think Postive honest.

Don't despair....had a cob x tb who chipped some bone off his fetlock and it was removed with the magic eye....back in work and jumping 4 months later.
Good luck
Bryndu:)

I'm going through this with my filly only the kick was to her hock. She has had the xrays and scans as well and despite the fact her hock is enormous and pointy (sounds just like yours) the fragments/foreign bodies in there (we're not sure which they are) are actually tiny. She is most likely going to have them surgically removed in a couple of weeks and she is expected to be completely normal after. The op will apparently be very minor.

Don't panic yet as it may not be a bone chip, if it is it may be so tiny that it will recover completely once removed and life will be back to normal. My vet hasn't given me any reason to suspect my horse won't go on to do anything I want her to. :)

My friend's mare had a chipped bone in the offside hind knee. She had a few months box rest and is back to normal so don't despair. My friend rarely jumps but she didn't mention that she could no longer jump so may still be possible.

Thank you everyone! Think the vet was just putting it out there, I'm hoping for the best, preparing for the worst kind of thing! It's good to hear other people's experience of things like this as I've been lucky so far and not had to deal with anything like this. Poor boy had a bad bout of colic at the same time so just want to get him sorted and enjoying himself again! Just going to wait and see what x rays say and go from there as you've suggested. Will update again once we've been. Thank you again! X

Good news! He's not broken! A few fragments of bone on there but opened the wound to help them come out. Another week of antibiotics, will take a while for it to look normal again but no reason I can't start working him. Hurrah. X x

Ya see!!!! Happy ending...excellent..I think vets like to give us the doom and gloom just to see our faces when it isn't! It must brighten their day too:)
Best wishes

Blimey...hi jacking thread...dare I ask what is wrong with your beast?

Bryndu

If you back track a bit to page one I wrote a really long and boring post about how my filly has done similar! Only she's going to end up in surgery.

Clearly OPs beast is a much more considerate animal!

Hope yours gets fixed jess! Healing vibes coming your way! My face was certainly full of glee this morning, spent all afternoon pampering and giving him a much needed bath (only for him to roll as soon as he got in the field!) I'd like to agree and says hes considerate but he does have his moments, typical tb, but I love him so it doesn't matter. Can live with the occasional strop cos he's such a sweetie most of the time. Thank you again everyone. X x x
