I have always thought that chicken and turkey are low fat meats, with tripe being more fatty?

Today I was standing at the pet shop freezer comparing labels (as you do....!!) and Nature’s Menu claim their chicken has 15% crude fat, turkey has 14% and tripe has 10%. I’m now confused!

Hoover had human grade turkey mince for a couple of days (7% fat) but that was prohibitively expensive so I’ve swapped him to Natures Menu, he seems to be ok on it so far, touch wood!!!

No tripe is not fatty, common misconception. Pet grade minces are often closer to the normal fat content of whole animals as human meats are usually lean/trimmed heavily

Thanks Druid, that is very helpful - more blood test results tomorrow, so I’ll ask the vet about how long to wait before I try him on tripe!

I know the key at the moment is to keep him stable, but he is being a fussy sod and is refusing to eat the spectacularly expensive kibble the vet suggested. If I can keep him stable I need to find something to put weight on him, he is on 1.5kg of cooked mince a day at the moment plus scrambled eggs because he likes them! (35-ish kg dog who is currently 30kg ☹️☹️)

I found this out too when I first started raw-feeding Joe, because he doesn't do well with fatty meats at all. Beef tripe is usually between 10-16% fat while lamb tripe is lower at about 5-6% - so I always go for lamb tripe now!
