My horse has been really trippy the last few times I have ridden him and not picking his feet up properly... I had a brand new saddle fitted in March so Im really hoping its not saddle related! He was shod Saturday and lives out 24/7 at the moment. Maybe he is being lazy but it was frankly getting on my nerves last night as I thought I was going over his head about 6 times!!

Any suggestions??

Could be lameness, especially hind legs so not always obvious. I have a horse who trips a lot but he's always done it and he's not lame according to the vets. I'd be more concerned about new onset tripping

presumably the farrier and vet have had a look?
one of mine trips if shod, shes fine when shoeless, maybe its an avenue to explore.

He had a bad shoulder a few years ago and it was suggested that this originally started in the opposite hind leg and then tightness was where he was overcompensating...

I wonder if that has reared its ugly head again...

Who do you think is best to check with? Back person, physio, vet??

Haven't consulted anyone yet as it was only last night that it was really apparent. He isn't the most forward going so I have presumed he has just been lazy up until last night when it was quite frequent. We were riding on a field though that isn't very flat and it has grooves running through it where it used to be ploughed... doen't exlplain the tripping out hacking though...

my horse trips occasionally, but i think thats just because his legs are a long way from his brain

he tripped quite a lot this morning, but he wasnt concentrating on the flatwork, and also he needs shod - but he is getting his back done soon as it seems to help the tripping. silly bugger dosent trip when hes jumping!! but my boy trips when not concentrating - he always trips in the free walk on a loose rein

as you said that he was shod recently and has only started to trip, i would check the feet and see if he is off balance through the foot or the shoes are the wrong size?

hum,.. ted trips alot.. just cause he's in a world of his own..

Speak with your farrier, could be longer toes, or thicker section of shoe. May be an idea to discus rolled toes or natural wear pattern shoes (NBS)

All of these things can mess with beak over point and time and untill your horse is used to the change he may trip.. failng this.. vet.

One of mine constantly trip but purley for the reason that Nailed said .. hes just always in a world of his own! lol!

Tripping can be a sign of Navicular (not that I want to worry you as can also be due top other reasons) but if you're concerned then i would really get the vet out to look. It may be the feet are just too long in the toe and can be remedied easily.
