My gelding was off work for a few months as he was lame through pulling a shoulder muscle, I got him lots of sprts massages and he eventually came out fine, brought him back into work verry slowly [actually i totallt re-broke him, from long reining to riding.] But since we have gone back into work he keeps tripping in walk

It could be due to lots of things unfortunately. Could be unfitness and lack of impulsion from behind, could be laminitis, navicular, arthritis you name it!!! Could be spinal! Could be concussion! Could be linked to his shoulder! So many possibilities.

I think you need to monitor it and speak to your vet and farrier if it continues as he gets fitter or if it gets worse. Particularly if just on a circle. As it is at the beginning of a ride it sounds like a fitness thing so make sure he is really using himself behind for now.

Sorry cant be of more help!

Start by asking the farrier to roll the toes on his shoes (if he is shod) or on his hooves if he is not. This could help tremendously.
