Hello, just wanting to know what the spacing is for trot and canter poles. I want to set up a grid to get my mare to slow down and think and not tear into fences so can anyone suggest a grid set up for this? Thought some canter poles into the grid would be good to slow her. Can i also have a bounce, 1 stride and 2 stride distance (all in human steps please as im useless at measuring!!)Really needing to improve pace and technique now!

Just doing this in my Diploma..so straight from the book of horsemanship.
Trotting poles for Pony - 3'3"-4'9"..........Horse 4'3"-5'
Canter poles. Pony depends on size, Horse 9'-12'.
I normal set trotting poles at one and a half big strides for 14:3 Welshy. That should be around 4'6"

trotting poles I go four to five feet toe to heel on my 15.2. placing pole, three normal strides, canter poles and bounce fences four normal strides, one strided double eight or nine strides and add another four strides for every additional canter stride in the double (i.e. 12 for a two strider, 16 for a three strider and so on) I'm 5ft 5 but have short legs so I guess it depends on the length of your stride (and the size of your feet for trotting poles!)

Hope that helps
