Hi folks, first post on H&H but thought i'd give it a blast!

I've recently discovered that there is a TROT Toll ride 3 miles from me & with my new 'keep fit' hacking regime in full swing I thought i'd give it a try. Its alot of money to join tho so looking for some reccomenations then I think I will try a day pass if folks think its worth it.

Has anyone been on this route before, if so what's it like & is it usable this time of year as I know some routes can get closed if they become boggy? Also, the website states 'jumps available' does this mean someone can put jumps out on request or are the jumps there permanently? Also does anyone know what the jumps are like? My horse is a bit lazy with his jumping sometimes and I can see him nose-planting if I asked him to pop over a sturdy log

That toll ride is 6 miles over some nice countryside with wonderful views.I believe 6 of the bonfleur cross county jumps are included. It is expensine if you are within hacking distance. Not sure which side of Linton Hill you are,but the Farleigh/Hunton side does have lots of good hacking. If you are the other side it's not so good as Linton Hill is a very busy and dodgy road to cross, and no decent hacking that side, just lots of lanes.I am thinking about joining TROT but am wavering over the fee.

Thanks Maggie. Yes I am Farleigh side (east farleigh) but am struggling to find any good off-road hacking! Maybe you could suggest some good ones?! I have OS explorer map for Maidstone too so should be able to figure some out if you can point me in the right direction?

Hi Pukkapony, I'm also East Farleigh :) There are quite a few options for hacking in our area.

South of the A26 you've got Kettle Lane/St Helen's Lane which have very little traffic. Taking short section of B2163 from top of Kettle Lane you can go West along the bridlepath past Fox Pitt and then down the restricted byway to Buston Farm Cottages.

Alternatively, from the B2163 you can turn East and go through Amsbury Woods, crossing North Folly Road and Upper Hunton Hill, this takes you into the western side of the Trot Route.

North of the A26 you've got bridlepaths leading to, into and around the woods at Oaken Wood. There's also tracks and bridlepaths towards Livesey Street and Cattering Wood.

In my opinion hacking is pretty good :D

Linton hill TROT is lovely, plenty of hill work and good cantering in the orchards and the jumps vary from small to pretty challenging all around the edge of a big field. I used to go regularly with a friend before my mare was retired. We had some lovely rides there!
