Question.....mare is without shoes, very happy, not footy trotting (and even cantering when she takes over ) on concrete - i don't get ouchy moments on stones etc etc

So, i wouldn't feel comfortable trotting my horse on concrete with shoes because of concussion, tendon damage etc. Is that different for barefoot because the foot is functioning how it's supposed to?

thanks :D

I do short bursts of trotting specially when my m boy is in old mac boots but the pony trots bare foot .

If you trot really fast then no been there done it knacked legs

very slow trot or jog i dont see the problem as long as it is a steady trot and not for long.

Yep, assuming the horse has a good heel first landing then the horses own shock absorption kit comes into play. I would build up slowly the same as anything else, but with careful build up to allow the digital cushion to build up strength then it doesn't worry me at all. I wouldn't (and didn't) in shoes as the horse has alot more concussion do deal with.

i only have the option to do short burts really anyway....but i do a normal trot (which is a big trot as girl is warmblood type) for those short bursts :)

thought so, she does have great feet but i'm usually the one riding her and can't tell if we get heel first all the time lol :D I should imagine so tho as her digital cushions are great, her frog is great and i haven't had to have a trim for 4 months because she's wearing them down as she should naturally, which tells me that it's more than likely that she's got a foot that is performing as it should :) never get windgalls either (when i first bought her, in shoes she would get them quite easily) after any riding :)

I don't have a problem with trotting on the roads. If my horse was uncomfortable, he would tell me.

I thought as much....but just wanted to check as i've only just started trotting on roads. I've used boots for the past 2 years and come out of boots over christmas (should've been sooner really) and she's more than happy to trot (canter or gallop) everywhere hehe :)
