Last hat was a Charles Owen but didn't fit too great, current hat is a Champion but the harness seems to be completely wrong, no matter how much I tighten it or loosen either the bit at the back or the actual chin strap, the chin strap sits on my point of my chin/below my lip rather than under my chin (not sure I'm explaining this very well!) Hat is now due an upgrade and I'm not sure what type to look at?
I mostly hack so was considering a Troxel but can't seem to find UK retailers where I could maybe go and try one on/have it properly fitted, only online suppliers? Or other brands to consider please? Local shop doesn't seem to have a huge range in so any recommendations for places to go around Surrey/Herts/Warks are welcome. Thanks :)

Totally depends on head shape so always difficult to recommend, however if you're struggling to find a good selection, have you thought about heading to one of the larger shows that will have a good selection of trade stands? I've found this helpful in the past (albeit my choice of 'big show' was Olympia so the selection was immense!)

Good excuse for a day out!

I have a Dublin Onyx (two, in fact), and love it. I have an oval-shaped head and have always found it difficult to find one that doesn't squeeze me front to back (headache!) and stays in place without strangulation. The Onyx has padding at the back edge of the helmet that hugs the back of the head down to the neck. I can give a very sharp nod in it without the front tipping down onto the bridge of my nose. The straps are sufficiently adjustable that I can get it secure without problems. Doesn't cost the earth either, and has current PAS/kitemark etc. so I can use it for TREC.

That would be my recommendation to try, but of course everybody's head is different.

My troxel hat is completely adjustable with a dial at the back...

It fits anyone I've tried it on.

Love it.

Vio vet sell them I think I recall.

Not all ASTM hats meet current safety standards. If it matters to you make sure the model you get has the SEI mark on it as well.
