I was looking at them both in the stable last night, and Troy's hocks are ever so slightly higher than Hannah's... no wonder the poor man has trouble getting to his feed bucket and ends up kicking it all around the stable

Hannah is 16.2hh (although she won't let me near her with the measuring stick) and Troy is now 13.3hh at 5 months, his bum more 14.2hh which is quite scary and makes him look very odd indeed. I will try to get some recent photos of him as he is changing colour again, he is going much darker and more like his Mum!!!

So, how big should I expect Troy to be when he is an adult going off the hock heights? (knees are the same too... ever so slightly higher than Mum's).

I recognise this, becki, with our Fionn following Troy on fast!

He's 3 months and 12.2 at the moment, and is also doing the colour change thing ... we think he's going from bay to very dark grey, but its a bit difficult to tell! Did Troy look very scruffy when he went through his colour change? Fionn is certainly not looking his best currently, more like a patchwork quilt lol!!!

Oh Becki there is another of these string-test things for this to do with hocks but I don't remember how it is worked out (this one is a mathematical one as I recall). You have to measure the length from the centre of the hock to the centre of the fetlock blah blah blah.....

You could do the string test on the front legs though - measure from centre of knee to centre of coronet band; the length in inches is supposed to be the same as in hands. So if it measures 16 inches then the horse will be 16hh, 15 inches is 15hh and so on and so forth. Have fun!
