true cost of owning a lorry?

hey all, Now getting my finances together after finishing uni and getting a job the time has come to strat getting out and about with my horses a lot more and so im going to have to get some transport. Which do people think is more economical? Horebox vs car/ trailer? I would need to do the towing test if i was to get a trailer and also my little micra that i run about it great on fuel and insurance and so going for a 4x4 will be costly. I was thinking of looking at a box cllose to us which is a 2 horse front facing 'van type' of box. The advertisement says it L reg with relatively low milage and all in all looks a very tidy nice little box. Its advertised at 6k which I could get with a little help from my bank.....I was just wondering what yearly costs of plating / taxing and general upkeep of small boxes are?

Well, my friend and I bought a 3 horse lorry last year for 2500. its old but reliable and has never let us down. The time came to mot the thing and its cost us £ 1500 to get it roadworthy. its cost us £320 to insure it for the year and £180 to tax it. we love it but we are going to downgrade to a trailer later in the year as we only have 2 horses between us now.

not sure on the costs but im sure that those vans that have been done up to carry horses. (as in a small van which can fit 2 horses in. do you know what i mean?

I've just bought one and been told to budget £1000 a year for the running of it that doesn't include major problems but tax, testing and insurance with a bit left over.....

our old lorry cost us about £1000 a year to keep. Thats to insure, plate, service, tax. That doesnt take into account any problems you encounter or the diesel to trun it. It just costs that to sit on the yard and do nothing!

We sold it as it was costing so much and bought an Equitrek, Certainly wouldnt go back to a wagon now.
