Have these days gone and we have to chase them with carrot sticks and bouncy balls??Have owned my lad all his life and he follows me around the field of his own choice...he try's his heart out for me...and i backed him traditional method:D....tried the chasing him off method to see what he would do(curiosity)...and he stood there, even when the rope touched him,as if to say "Mum wtf are you doing",lol!Dont get it!!If you bring up a horse(foal) and handle it as a horse then you should have no issues!!

Unfortunately (for horses) there are lots of owners who just don't have a clue about handling/training, and who's experience amounts to what they can gleen from DVDs.

Is this another Parelli thread in disguise? Just wondering because of the reference to bouncy balls. I've seen many Parelli young horse starts and they've never featured chasing the horse off with a bouncy ball. Monty Roberts could be argued to chase horses off with his Join Up I suppose. Parelli students, as opposed to professionals, are clearly advised that they shouldn't attempt starting a youngster.
