So I have been horse shopping for what feels like forever. I am after the same as what everyone else wants. A safe, family pony that is big enough for a small adult (me!) to enjoy as well as my smaller child and older teen.
Some of you may have seen my other thread a month or so ago about a pony who was for sale that I really liked but that was very over priced. I considered it for far longer than I should have and then very sadly declined. I them came back to the mare as couldn't get her out of my head but head ruled heart and I eventually walked away. I have been quite down ever since and haven't been looking.
Last night at work it was a little slow so I browsed my local FB horsey page and saw a lovely little cob that I am aware of. Pony is owned by a lovely woman I loaned off in the past (that horse was sold, as was always going to be the case). Anyway, she loves this little mare but she hasn't made the height she needs and cannot bear to sell her.
I have had a chat with her and am going to see the pony tomorrow afternoon! She is wanting her to go on full loan and she can provide assisted DIY livery, which is perfect for me. I just cannot do part loan as I hate to not have the full control.
Pony is 4 and was backed last spring, turned away over winter and has come back this spring with light hacking and some basic schooling. She is a blank canvas with low mileage and gorgeous to boot! Apparently hacks alone and is good in traffic which is very important for me. I know the pony is sweet and as safe as you ever can be around small kids as I have handled her a lot in the past and helped 2 years ago when she first came to my friend as a scrawny two year old who had had little handling. I have seen videos of her being ridden by a child in the menage and out hacking in open fields.
My only concern is her size. She is measuring at 13.1/2 but is a typical stocky cob so I am hoping she will take up my leg. I am only 5ft 3 with short legs! I have lost a lot of weight in the last year and am now nearer to 9 stone than the 12 stone I was this time last year and I still have a heavier mindset.
So watch this space and I will report back tomorrow!
