Trying new horses out?

Hi everyone,

Just a random post really. Today I went to view my third horse to buy. It was the second time to see her today as the first time I didn't ride her I just went to see if I like her etc then come back to ride her.

I have found that I really like her, but she is very green, which is why I want to take her on etc. She has come on loads since last week so she is showing that she is a very keen learner. She is lovely.

Now my only thing is, everytime I try horses out I always get soo nervous with the owners watching me because I feel like they may not think im "good enough" for there horse etc. I don't know why it is? Its like I just forget how to ride etc which is stupid of me.

So how can I overcome my nerves? I mean today was my first time riding the horse and im hopefully going back on monday with my field owner to see what she thinks about the horse as well.

I really like her, and the owner has said that I am ideal for the horse and I can have first refusal on her .. but from coming home I just feel like I rode really rubbish.

How can I over come my nerves?? :S

Try not to stress the horse will feel it too - I have been looking recently for a friend (so extra pressure!!!) and I was nervous also but I just think I dont know anybody who likes to showcase there riding skills to people they dont know and I am sure the vendors felt exactly the same when they rode in front of you - you wouldnt be human if you didnt have nerves!!. Also the good thing going for you is that the horse is green so you can blame it on that lol.xx
 
Try and relax, if your buying you hold the cards not them. :):)
As long as your handing over the cash and giving the ned a good home I'm sure they won't critique your riding.

Oh I'm glad it went well for you - have been waiting to hear the outcome.
Fingers crossed this is the one as I haven't been looking for another!
Why don't you have a lesson with him.... he doesn't bite and I can come and hold your hand if you like!
 
I'm not sure there is an awful lot you can do about it, but be reassured, it's normal to be nervous!

I felt like a complete numpty when I tried out my horse at a dealers - I was a novice rider and the horse had bsja winnings, the rider was the top young showjumper in the country at the time!

I did a some flatwork and a bit of jumping, although nothing like the 1.20m plus the rider had shown he could do!

The mare sounds nice, and the owner is obviously not worried about it, so just try and relax and enjoy your next ride on her.

Haha :D Yeah that could be a good idea having a lesson with him. She is just such a nice mare and I really don't want to miss out the chance of getting her. I don't know ive just come home a bit like "arghh why couldnt of I just ridden better" lol

I know that he is selling me the horse but he still needs to know that the person buying the horse is suitble for the horse as well. Grrr im so anoyed at myself lol xx
 
I think it will be good for you both to have a lesson (he's an instructor). I'm sure he won't mind. Ask him how much he charges for 30 mins.

I once tried a TB and he just wouldn't move out of trot in the school!

When I tried my old boy (for loan) I went out for a short hack and he went from walk to canter in 3 secs and he's with me now (was gifted to me by the owners). He's 28 now and I got him when he was 13.

When I tried my big chap - it was WOW at first sight. I also went out on a hack again and came back grinning like a Cheshire cat... I've had him about 9 years now.
