Before I got my horse and was working out finances etc I saw loads of people online in the area looking for a horse share. Now all of a sudden its as if nobody in Portsmouth rides or they already have their own?! Or they're 6, used to Shetlands, but now think they're ready to hop on my Irish chunky monkey. Gahhhhh

Anyone got recommendations for where I might find one who is sane?! Already done Preloved, equineadverts, Friday Ad and google "Horse share Portsmouth" or words to that effect 19 times a day just incase a new one pops up...

Something yummy awaits for anyone who can help :D

I'm sane and reasonably local but without wheels currently :(

Have you tried putting ads up in the feed shops et al locally?

Im in West Sussex at the mo (back to Portsmouth next week) so won't be able to until then, was hoping to have it sorted sooner rather than later. Where abouts are you out of interest?

Have you tried www.nfed.co.uk you do have to pay but i have only heard people praise it.

Also, i may be able to help r.e the sharer...im looking for a share horse, im reasonably sane (as much as horsey people can be) and not 6 ;) feel free to pm me :)

There is a facebook group called 'Hampshire Hooves' - most of the people on that are from Portsmouth area so you could try advertising on there , its a very active group with lots of members :)

madaboutthehorse...just pm'ed you! and for some reason NFED wouldnt accept my card details but I've been keeping my eye on all the wanted ads to the point where I think I have most memorised...

beyond birthday...had never heard of it before but just requested to join

thanks everyone :D

There's a Hampshire Horse newsletter as well, well certainly used to be that had a mini classifieds section in it :)

What are you offering? If its a good deal then there will be people available.

Claudia, shame he isn't suitable and about nfed not liking your card! I know your frustration, i think i am getting to the point of memorizing all the 'loans offered' on there too!

Riding up to 3 times a week, no stable duties Mon-Fri as on full livery, flexible on days/times, yard is easily accessible off the a3 but has amazing hacking right onto South Downs and several other large wooded areas plus regular beach visits. Straight forward 16.2hh Irish SH, not stupid or spooky in any way. Do want a small contribution but will depend on number of days etc. Happy for the right person to compete!

Whats not to like about my lovely boy :(

The cost maybe... how are you defining small contribution?

Hmm like £20 a week for 2 days?

I was reading a few threads on here and people were saying they generally take his weekly costs, work it out per day, then times that by the number of days the sharer does. He costs me £80 a week all in, so £20 for 2 days £30 for 3 is less than that, plus one lesson at a riding school is around £30.

I think it depends largely on the area as well, horses for share in Windsor will get about £250 a month, I shared one in a rather nice area so to speak and paid £150 a month when it was on grass livery, so I paid over its livery charges!

Also based it on what other people were charging in their adverts.

Hi, I live just outside Portsmouth and have been riding for 14 years, with 8 years owning my own horses. Due to uni I had to sell my horses, but I would love to find a horse to share in the area. Are you still looking for someone?

Many thanks

Kate Paddock

I can sympathise. I have a lovely coloured gelding I'd like to find a sharer for, but it seems like the only people I've come across looking for a share are real novices. While my boy is very sweet, he is only 7, and completely unspoilt, soft mouthed & responsive - and that's how I'd like to keep him! He's got loads of potential, and now my work is picking up, it would be great to find someone who'd like to ride him a couple of times a week - I'm not even looking for a contribution - I think it's very hard to get people to pay to ride these days, all I'd like is someone to take care of gelding on their days.

I looked for a sharer for another of my ponies last year (now given up looking & pony is a field ornament), and it was enough to put you off for life. One person who came out tried to mount with the wrong foot on the wrong side (meaning they'd have ended up facing ponys tail) and another banged so hard on ponys back each time she sat in rising trot that I thought poor pony was going to launch her into space.

Is it the area maybe? I'm a bit north of Portsmouth - more Bishops Waltham way. Do people outside Hampshire find sharers more easily?

There is also a site on FB called Horses for loan or share in Portsmouth area... try that I know few people on there.

Shame I am not down there any longer I'd have jumped at the chance... can you not move to Essex please lol. :)

I'm currently looking for a share horse just for a couple days a week this way, but not finding anything either :( so understand the frustrations.

What yard you at?... I may know people that would be interested?..

I found mine on horsemart :) Might be worth asking at Fort Widley or other local riding schools? My friend is looking for a sharer as well and isn't having much luck maybe it's this rubbish weather we've been having
Anyway your horse sounds lovely good luck

Will get in touch with someone I know who maybe interested with lots of experience. Have you been successful yet?

I've found it difficult finding any horses to share. Clearly am looking in the wrong places. I would be more than happy to come for a trial ride and meet you, you can see how I ride etc... Can I ask how big is your coloured gelding??
