Am desperate for some Jeffries/Equus Eventa or Bio Grip Reins as my old pair of eventa's passed away a while ago. However, as a student am on a bit of a budget, so wondering if anyone could recommend some good cheaper equivalents or alternatives?

I bought a pair of Robinsons smooth rubber reins a few months ago but don't find them particularly grippy compared to eventas and also they are buckle billet and I prefer hook stud.

Thanks v much - and apols that this probably isn't strictly CR. :o

Jeffries Wembley range do a nylon lined lined rubber reins that are english leather but not english made. they are there budget version

JHL Pro range do the eventa grip reins, think they call them their "show" reins. The RRP is around £25. I seen them in a tack shop down south and the leather was good quality, they looked really smart and couldn't tell the difference between them and the Jeffries next to them.

ETA - don't think they were buckle billet either

the seller free spirits saddlery on ebay do a knock off of the bio grip reins, i bought a pair last week but they havent arrived yet so cant tell you if they are any good, but will report back as soon as they do!

Yeah I switched to the wembley recently as 5yr old is going through a "toddler tantrum" stage and twice caught the Falcon bio-grip reins- snapping them, which was good because he was caught in them, but bad as had to be replaced- twice. I find no real difference other than price

Good tip Joss - those reins look identical to the usual biogrip reins and v good price.

As a slightly different option - I have some continental reins which are also laced with rubber and so are very grippy. They were about £25.

Sounds identical to what I use. :) I think mine are cheapy Kincade ones, but have done the job. I used plenty Oakwood leather conditioner to soften them up. Only problem for OP is that they are buckle billets. :(

Hi - I've got a Passier brown pair that I was going to put on ebay in the next couple of days - fantastic condition as I prefer the jefferies biogrip ones, so swapped for these pretty quickly. Let me know if you'd be interested in them :-)

Just to be pedantic billet fastenings are "hook studs". So it's either billets or buckles. Billet buckle doesn't make sense.

Am very tempted by the Wembley reins linked to, they look lovely!
