I registered myself and horse with BD in late August as full members and competed once. Subsequently, circumstances have changed and I have sold the horse (as of yesterday) and am debating giving up completely. I am 66 and on the brink of osteoporosis. I have also put my lorry on the market. I tried to cancel my membership, but have to have a doctor's certificate to say I can't ride. I'm not taking up my GP's time to ask them for a note. Plus, I can't ride because I have no horse and I do not want to compete anymore in any case. But apparently that isn't a reason to cancel. I have just been on the site to see if I can delete the horse. Nope. No ability to do that unless deceased or retired. He's gone to a ponly club home and very much dout he'll be doing any BD. Any advice or do I just have to keep paying monthly to rub my nose into the fact that I have ended my dreams?
I am going to send them a change of ownership form at least...But now I see that won't work either!! I am trying to say horse is gone!

In most circumstances you'll have to pay for the full year. Your membership is annual, even when paying monthly I believe. I'm not sure if people have had money back if their horse has died but generally you're committed for the year.

BE is actually ok on this as does give you money back. % depends on how much you used it. In your situation I would send an email to Jason the CEO as nothing to lose with your evidence.

Sorry but I think it’s fair enough of BD to expect you to see out the membership year. That isn’t meaning to sound unsympathetic to your change in circumstances but equally each members personal circumstances aren’t really BD’s problem.

Just make sure you don’t auto-renew next August (I’ve not been a member since giving up competing years ago so I’m not sure if you have to positively renew or not).

I'd call the membership team but realistically I'd expect you to need to pay for the full year for you and the horse.
Fairly sure BD is annual membership and they don't have anything in policy for ending it early.

Did you compete at all under this membership? I think that may have a bearing.

I had a membership paused once, where I hadn't competed at all, and the horse was written off. The membership had auto renewed after he went lame, when I hadn't realised. I didn't get a refund but they did pause the membership.

I never did compete again, so it hasn't so far been used, and that was 10 years ago, LOL, so it may as well have not been paused. But, you never know!
