Hi,

This is a really long shot on behalf of a friend.

She has a cracking Welsh Sec C/D Welsh 13.3hh (Black with a star and four white feet) He is just 4 years old.

He is unregistered and the only info she has it that the sire was called "Rocky" which I assume is a stable name. The chances are he would be in the southern part of the country.

He is a lovely pony, really typey and if she could trace his parentage he would do well in registered classes.

I know it's a bit vague, but if it rings any bells with anyone I will pass the info on to her!

What is the registered name of the dam of your friend's pony? Studs will give a covering certificate and it could be that someone will recognise the mare's name. Otherwise you are looking for a very small needle in an incredibly large haystack.
 
Horeb stud had a stallion named Horeb Rocky Rees... They're in Ceredigion though so not very 'south'... The relevant stallion though could have a stable name totally unrelated to his registered name and make any search darn near impossible...

The other route is via the dam and as Lulwind suggested, the covering certificate...

if you only have the registered name of one parent then i think you have to reg them as a part bred even if they arent.If you can get the name of both i think you still need a dna test to confirm parentage and then you will need to get a life height to re-register as a D. If the sire is only known as rocky then I doubt a covering cert would have been given
 
Yes mrogers he would need a DNA test.

Was just hoping (I know it's unlikely!) that if she could be pointed in the direction of the stallion, that there was an outside chance they would be able to maybe identify the mare.
 
The previous owners are not responding unfortunately, and there are no breeding details in the passport.

She was only told the name "Rocky" by the previous owner and they did not provide any paperwork apart from the passport, which is not a welsh one.
 
If he is a gelding there is a **possibility*** that the WPCS will register him as a D as you will not be breeding from him...I have a similar situation ongoing...have a gelding, know the sire and reg name...have the reg name of the dam but she died last spring so can only dna test the sire...worth a try anyway
