I'm trying to track down some info on a horse i now own. She was breed by heather macpherson of Gotham farm in dorset, the same person who breed cevin z.

My mare has a zangersheide passport and is out of a mare called Gaia. It's Gaia im interested in as my mare is now 17yr old so I'm guessing Gaia was around before internet records were kept as i can't find out much info on her. I know Heather breed cevin z with Gaia and the outcome was a little grey mare called 'call me smartie' but thats all i know.
Also i believe Heather Passed away some time ago, can anyone confirm this?

thanks for any info :)

Hi there,

Sadly, I can confirm Heather passed away. I did not know her personally, but I lived down the road from her and went to her house with a friend in about 1998.

Both Gaia and Smartie were there- Smartie was young, maybe a two year old and I remember watching a video whilst in the kitchen of Cevin jumping a newcomers at Medstead- so he was probably six years old at the time- William had him then. I think Smartie would have been one of Cevin's first progeny. Heather was excited about Smartie, and I think she said William was to have her- but I cannot remember if he did. I know she jumped eventually so you could check out her BS record if you are a member for free. I can do it for you, if you want but soon- but my membership runs out in a couple of weeks and I wont renew this year as I am 26 weeks pregnant.

Gaia, if I remember correctly was a big framed mare and grey. Apparently she was quite a famous mare and I cant remember who jumped her, but if my memory serves right she had been very successful abroad, but you would have to check that out. Perhaps email the BWP as they keep rankings.

Sorry not much to report but I do remember both of them.

I just checked Smartie's record and she was jumped by Steven Franks and Miss (I assume Louise) Saywell.

The only Gaia it could be that has been registered BS only had winnings at BN and Disc, so either Gaia was not registered to jump here or the info I have was rubbish!

Thanks so much for the info! From what I was told my mare was one of heathers favorites so was kept by the head lad after heather died, but obviously I have no way of knowing if that is true. Can you tell me what heather was like with her, horses? Just wondering how my mare was brought up. I was told william also jumped my, mare but someone kindly got me her bs record and william didn't compete her.
I was also told heather was going to put my mare in foal to cevin eventually. And I must admit, I'm tempted, they could make a nice match.

I didn't know Heather personally, but I bumped into her a few times after meeting her and she was a really nice lady. It's very sad she passed away. Her house and yard was lovely, immaculate and the horses got the best education and riders, so I would say your mare would have been very well looked after.

I think Cevin is/was most recently at West Kington stud. He would be knocking on a bit by now! The only thing I remember is that Gaia was a gert mare- very bulky and if your mare takes after her, there may be more athletic stallions for her.

Who is your mare's sire?

I met Kevin when she first bought him - lovely chap and it was SO exciting when he turned out to be as good as she had dreamed he would be :)

And I remember Gaia,Smartie and Maggie as a youngster (but I guess I would really!!) Dont know what happened with Gaia when Heather died, but I can try to find out - its been a while, but im sure I can get my hands on something helpful if I have a dig about...

Glad Maggie is in a nice home - she is lovely :)

Heather told me that Gaia was jumped on the international circuit and was sold to Spain as a potential Olympic horse. Unfortunately she was then injured and became permanently unfit for top level competition and was sold to a riding school there! Heather found her in a terrible state while on holiday in Spain, bought her on the spot and brought her back to the UK :). Heather was very into alternative therapies (black box radian diagnosis etc) and she was certainly her favourite mare (as well as her first one) so she spent ages getting her right after her rescue, during which time I met her through Caroline O'Hara of New Priory Stud who raised Cevin Z for her after she bought him at the Zangersheide foal auction. Hope that helps (and also explains why she has no BS record).

Wow!!! thank you so much for all your info, it is exactly the sort of info i was after. I was told Gaia was a really nice mare but i couldn't find any info at all so i had no idea if what i was told was true.
Any more info anyone can dig up for me would be really appreciated. Can anyone remember when Heather passed away? I'm just curious when Maggie would of been rehomed, I only really know where she was from september 2010 onwards when the lady i got her from took over ownership.
