Tucked up old lady?

My little old lady is still on box rest for her pedal bone rotation and shes now started going on walk outs and spending time in the sand pen.
After the farrier had trimmed her she went quite sore for the past few days however farrier been back out and sorted the soreness today. She now looks much happier on her feet and was very happy to have a roll in the sand pen!

Brought her in and took her turn out rug off and noticed she was a little tucked up and sensitive at first to touch it. Touch the flank again and she didnt bother but was still tucked up. All morning and night net had been eaten and morning feed and I didnt notice this morning when changing into her day rugs that she was tucked up. However she hadnt eaten her lunch net in the pen and just spent her time wandering around in the pen looking for scraps of nicer hay! We think the last batch of hay isnt very nice since quite a few seem to be leaving it and she has it soaked aswell.
She has pooed and seemed happy and very eager to eat the dry hay :eek: before I left.

Just wondering what opinions would be on her being tucked up when she came in from the pen? I seem to be steering towards she might have been abit cold since i put her out in a medium weight with neck and shes 3/4 clipped.
 
I would be more inclined to say Colic type problem. Or if you have had the snow she may have eaten snow and have a belly chill.
Never known mine to flinch being touched if just cold.

Thanks for the advice, yard manager did suggest that but shes passed dropping and is as moody as ever!


Sadly she was only in the sand pen and we havnt got any snow here! :( Gah I have an exam tomorrow :(
 
Could she have sniffed sand or swallowed sand? My lad regularly gets gassy colic type- still passes droppings but just looks uncomfortable.we usually let him wander out to release gas off himself.

Possibly. I'm just worried about walking her out too much because of her laminitis problems. Did take her for a walk and she seemed to loosen up. I was worried it could have been hind feet laminitis forming but farrier was out today and watched her walk up and down about three times, I presume he would have noticed if her hind feet seemed off?
 
I would check her digital pulse at least twice a day.
Also get some better hay and soak it for an hour and feed it off the ground. Feed one slice every 4 hours including at night - to keep her gut moving.
If her feet are sensitive then get farrier to fit some Imprint shoes.

Shes been on soaked hay for an hour for the past 3 months since the attack. Pulses are right down and her feet arent as sensitive. Since the trauma from the attack though shes got more sensitive feet, she was re shod with her heart bars on Wednesday. Farrier removed what he thought had made her abit ouchy and she was happily walking about and on the sand pen.
She was only given dry hay today since she wasnt eating the soaked hay, her night and morning is being soaked for an hour as we speak :D then its double netted. New bale has been started, she was happy to eat it.
She was a Cushings and grass induced laminitic, Prascend has been upped and she hasnt been back on grass since the attack (this was October time), eyes are now re hollow above.

Pain can make them tuck up and if you say she was footsore then that can do it.

She's also probably gone off the hay. She'll eat it if she's hungry enough!

Thanks for that, she seemed much better after farrier had been on her feet. Ill check her again when I go back down later.
Most the horses on the yard, minus the greedy lot! have gone off the hay. New bale tomorrow and I get my own small bales too.
