I am so impressed with them (and I also have this horrible habit of doing everything Lucinda Green says, even if it means ending up in a ditch, but that's another story
) that I am in the process of getting one for my new trailer. I have no need to raise the breech bar without going round the back, as none of my horses shoots out backwards, but I really like the idea of being able to release the bars in an emergency without going into the trailer.
I have one of the older ones - yes they are exp as around £500 fitted.
Mine does bend when the horse leans on it before its in. They've really ironed out the tweaks and I like the new outside release (mine would be the standard get a hex key out in a mad panic)
However it makes handling your horses so much easier. The only thing I have done twice on grass is forget to shut the back ramp ... you soon realise!!
Im impressed and think it is a fab idea. More on the safety aspect i think though as the release thing is SUCH a good idea. Tbh they arnt THAT expensive and esp if you travel youngstock/inexperienced travelers it would be worth the price... it is cheaper than replacing some horses!
Yes I realise that, but I still think that it is overpriced.
You can buy a computer for that, and the technology present there is beyond comparison...... or a saddle, in which the man hours and materials would be tens of times longer and more expensive to manufacture.
Because it is a new idea (yes they have been round for a few years) and probably not that many have yet been sold (comparatively) they are still expensive.....
Ive got one and it is rather pricey for the construction I think.
However its a Godsend for loading on your own.
You do have to look out and make sure that in your haste to put the bar up when the horse is in that you dont put it up too soon i.e in between the horses front and back legs like I nearly did once!! Luckily my boy didnt bat an eye lid as I popped it back down and got him in fully before putting it back up !
