Got to the yard tonight and young man has pooed EVERYWHERE.. He looked quiet, not bitey bitey, like i described in my last post. So i took him out as normal to muck out and tied him up somewhere i could keep an eye on him, and hed not been there 5 minutes when he lifted his tail and suddenly exploded. Liquid poo everywhere, and with the most awful smell i can only relate to vomit. We kept an eye on him and he didnt seem in a lot of discomfort, just pawing a bit at the floor and pooing more.
Ive not changed his feed, or routine. So what could be wrong? My YO has the vet coming out tomorrow, would it be worth getting him looked at if hes still the same in the morning? or could it be something simpler?
Thoughts?

Your horse has got some sort of gastric infection / bug and with those symptoms I would be calling a vet out straight away and not waiting for a routine visit tomorrow

Is your horse on haylage? Could be that its too rich for him. I know horses can get botulism from it (am told by another on our yard) but not sure how it affects them.

He is, although i changed him to hay and the same thing happened but not as bad, loose poo but no horrible smell and he was his normal happy self.
Hes been on haylage since he was born, never had a problem? And our broodmare has been on the same bale of haylage with no ill effects..
The botulism worries me however.

hi everyone, thanks for replies. Ive been to the yard this morning, and he appears completely fine?? poos all very solid and normal, healthy colour and smell. And hes back to his usual happy self! :s completely perplexed! So now, do i still have the vet out? or do i see how he goes and if it happens again then call vet?
