tumour...help!

hi my old boy had 2 teeth out at xmas and has now coughed up part of what has turned out to be a benign tumour ....apparently he may cough some more up...he is having trouble chewing hay any ideas on how /what to feed him to keep him ticking over til the grass comes?

same as my boy !
he gets 3 buckets per day 1/4 of the bucket of fast fibre 1/4 of hi fibre mix and half a bucket of alfa mixed.
these are large buckets

Mollichaff's Veteran Chaff is good for veterans too wuzell. My boy loves it. It's a very fine chop chaff, jam packed with herbs and mint and vits, mins and antioxidants. It's so palatable, I wish I could eat it. I make up very wet, sloppy Speedibeet to go with it and he's happy as Larry with it. Mind you, Sunny still has reasonable teeth for a 23yr old and tucks into his haynets too. But you could add soaked cubes to the mix and make it sloppy enough that it doesn't really require chewing. If he'd eat it, you could leave a bucket of wet Speedibeet in your boy's stable for him to have a slurp of whenever the fancy took him. Again, very palatable and just fibre so can't hurt him. As above really - make feeds nice and sloppy. I use Fast Fibre by Allen & Page, and find this brilliant (it can be used as a partial hay replacer).

Short chop like Hi Fi/Alfa A/Mollichaff etc works well if he can chew reasonably well - try to find one which can be used as a hay replacer. I think Hi Fi Lite and Hi Fi Senior can be, but not sure about any others.

Personally I would avoid any mixes as they don't soak well and could be difficult to chew/swallow.
 
thanks to everyone thats a great help..just feed as many small feeds as i can a day i guess.... bless him he will think its his birthday!...
