Hi i have just brought a 3 year old who was in a poor state and seen he has 2 sarcoids. One on the side of his face and a small one on the inside of his back leg! I have seen alot of people say about this turmeric is really good etc. But just wondered what peoples opinions were and what i have to feed it with?! Thanks
Of corse i will get the vet out if nothing works.

I was in an almost identical situation having bought a 2yr old in very poor condition (photos in album).

I discovered a sarcoid on the shaft of his penis and an incredibly tiny occult one on his chest. They were "new" and, going by all the research papers I've read I believe that they are related to his (lack of) immune system given the extent of his poor condition and the length of time he'd been kept like that before I bought him.

I've had horses with sarcoids before and always involved the vet. The first time the vets got it wrong (didn't treat all the sarcoids, one vet only thought there were 2 rather than 4 so missed a different 2 every time) meaning that the sarcoids hot very "angry". The mare had 4 tiny occult sarcoids and after the vets mistake they grew bigger and two massive sarcoids came up between her back legs. I changed vet practice and they were re-examined, new cream made and retreated. The mare was on danolin to help with the pain but they did go after the second round of treatment.

I bought a gelding with a sarcoid on his next and new vet practice wanted it treated too. It went after the first round of treatment with no issues.

Given the location of the bigger sarcoid on my youngster I can't imagine that any of the treatment options are going to be much fun for him... I carefully considered by options, done a lot of research and reading before deciding to go down the "turmeric route".

My thoughts are that its better to let the horse treat itself from the inside out. There's a very high % of reoccurrence when creams/bands/lasers are used based on what I've read. The youngster is also in good, healthy condition now.

He's fed turmeric twice a day: heaped tablespoon of turmeric (>3% cumin), 20 grinds of black peppercorns and micronised linseed. Turmeric has to be fed with pepper and an "oil". Everything has to be made up fresh at every feed. Water is added, just a little, and mixed into a paste. I mix this all together with his feed. He also gets a good bit/min supplement (progressive earth pro balance) and some chaff.

I also give him two thuja tablets, inside a carrot, once a day.

I applied sudocream mixed with turmeric to the sarcoid on his chest but given the location of the other one I leave it be.

Both sarcoids got bigger within a week of starting on this regime. The one on his chest then burst of its own accord, healed, appeared much smaller, burst, healed, smaller again and so on, now there is nothing there.

The one on his penis initially got bigger, then returned to its "normal size"(blackberry) and has possibly gotten smaller again. The area of the "blackberry" that connected it to his penis has decreased quite a bit but my hopes are that continues and it falls off.

Of course sarcoids are completely unpredictable and they may have behaved in this way regardless of what I feed or apply. Also in young horses it's very common for them to re absorb and/or fall off of their own accord.

Good luck with your horse

I have decreased the size to a pin prick of a mixed sarcoid on my horses face and expect this to go. The only things I changed was adding 2 scoops of turmeric to his feed mixed with linseed oil and I applied the global herbs cream directly to the sarcoid. I started treatment in June and within a week the top of the nodule sarcoid had dropped off.

Not tumeric but.. mine had a huge one on his eye lid. I used the global herbs sarc-x cream every day and added the sarc-x powder to his feed. His sarcoid was so bad he was used as an example at liphook. You now cant see the sarcoid at all. You wouldn't know he ever had one!
