turn out boot reccomendations please

Hi,
Anakan has injured his fetlock joint vet seems to think hes been kicked or gone over on it anyway had it x-rayed tonight and its not too serious, but ive been advised that he will need some support when he first goes out.
just wondered what sort of support you would use, im thinking along the lines of some sort of turn out boots rather than bandages, hes very good at removing them

Hi, my friends horse is on stable rest due to a sprained fetlock. She decided to put some medicine boots on for protection, which look very similar to the boots mentioned above. She left them on all day for 2 days, changing them for bandages at night, and when she took these boots off the second day, they had rubbed her around the back of the fetlock and she had sores which added to her discomfort.
The medicine boots are not meant to be used for over 4 hours at a time but she didn`t know this. So if you use these boots just have a good check over if they are to be on for a long period of time.
When Rox had stable rest and then turned out, I turned her out in bandages for about 4 days for exra support as I knew that she would tear around, and then I used the turnout chaps by sportabac for about 2 weeks just to be sure.

Interesting, because I would have recommended SMBs - I turn my crazy mare out in them every day for 6 hours, but they come off as soon as she comes in and are put on clean and dry the next day.

She comprehensively trashed one last week when she came off 10 days box rest, so I don't like to think what she would have done to her leg without it

She also completely mutilated a pair of Equilibrium Hardy Chaps on a previous occasion when she came off box rest; they didn't stay in place. At least the Sports Medecine boots stay put!

I think for short periods they should be fine provided you have the correct fit, and don't dry them on the radiators or they go stiff and are more likely to rub.
 
Thanks for that i will keep a close eye on him.
I cant really put bandages on him because he gets them off, i would be worried if he got them off in the field and got the bandage wrapped round his leg, hes only 2yrs and hes into everything, the only reason hes kept the bandage on his bad leg was because he has a vet wrap on it
