Just hoping someone can recommend some turn out boots for me to try on my Arab x Friesian.
He's been with me for 4 months now and in an electric fenced area of the main field. My friends horse, who is herd leader, can be a bit of a fence post destroyer! He has obviously decided that it is time for my horse to be in with the rest of the herd, as when I got there last night, he had broken 8 electric fence posts and the herd (her 3 plus my one) were all together.
All was calm when I arrived and the horses were all getting on fine, however, when i hosed my horse down he had 2 cuts on his legs. As the electric fence is well and truely down, I have removed it, as now her herd leader has realised he can get it down he will just continue to do so and this will cause more of a hazard than being a help. He is very clever and destroys the posts so that he does not get zapped by the current on the electric tape. Taking down 8 in a row caused a huge section of the fence to flop over, they then just pottered over the tape which was on the floor I assume!
So, can anyone recommend any turn out boots that he can use in VERY muddy conditions to save him getting further cuts on his legs? I think her filly got a bit amorous and struck out, rather than him being kicked in a fight. Friend's husband had watched the horses for some time all in together and said that he did not see any fighting, running around or bad behaviour (or he would have waded in and separated them) so I am hoping the legs won't get further cuts, but just trying to be "belt and braces". Friend is not turning filly out with the herd tomorrow so I have time to get something sorted.
Thank you for any recommendations.
