I'm having a bit of a turn out dilemma at the moment. My boys have two fields between them . the top one has grass in it but its smaller and next to the arena so they tend to get bored and play about , despite hay nets. They ruin the field and I'm sure its only a matter of time before one gets hurt.
The bottom field has tonnes of grass, they settle in there, its bigger and I still put hay our but it has a sycamore in the corner, I have fenced it off and pick up the seeds daily but there are still some as there are too many to pick up. I don't think they graze too much by the tree as there are leaves all over the floor and they seem to do their droppings over there.
They go out for four hours a day.
Which field would you use??
My other option is to turn out every other day in each field so they have less exposure to the sycamore and less time to ruin the top field and run around.

It will not be long now before all the seeds have fallen, have you an easier way to pick up the seeds like a leaf blower? Thank goodness all the acorns have finished falling round here, but my two also use the area under the trees as a latrine area, so the do not graze there.

Think the weather going cooler is making them run about more so I am taking the more space the better, option. Having said that the ponies broke through a rail this afternoon in order to reach the hedge and graze on it.

I have a similar problem. Grazing has loads of sycamores. Oddly some have masses of seeds, others have none that I can see. I have left my horses in the paddock with seeds as have no choice, but they have lots of grass. Once they are grazing it down then they will move to the next one. My issue is that by constantly moving them when the grass gets low, I now have very fat horses!! So not ideal either way. Sycamores are very popular trees round me and I am trying to limit exposure, by ensuring plenty of grass, but when nearly every other tree is one is does become difficult!! Mine are living out 24/7 too.
In your case I think that if only out 4 hours I wouldn't worry about putting them in the field with the sycamore. I am assuming this is not a new property and have not had any previous problems?
