Ok so I have an andelusian x Welsh and I want to show her in the working hunter. She currently has a mane about 12 inches long ( quite thick) and a mountain and morland type tail. Not much feather but tufts, she's bay too. I have light weight clippers and a humane pulling comb to hand.

Where do I start ?! Not pulled before either !

I'm not sure really. I'm a dressage rider at heart so this showing lark is new to me !

If you plan to show and want the correct look you will need to reduce the mane to a suitable length that you can plait, I would cut about 6 inches off and then thin and pull to where I am happy with, do this over a period of a few weeks otherwise the regrowth will all be at the same time. Practise plaiting so you can get the mane to suit you rather than how you think it should be, everyone has different preferences on the thickness and length.

The tail needs to be pulled at the top, a mane rake is ideal as it will help you get the right shape so you can pull some and use the rake to thin it, again do a bit at a time.It should be cut at the bottom so the tail when carried is just below the hocks, you need to know how high your horse carries its tail when ridden to get the correct length.

Heels can be clipped as can under the jaw, ears also trimmed.

She is not a M&M so would not really be correct.

you coud leave the mane and plait it in an "arab plait" Basically one long continuous plait along the crest.

Seen the photos in your album, she will look smart trimmed and plaited, for showing you will need a tweed jacket, she needs a dark girth, a discrete numnah and plain browband. I assume she jumps well so working hunter classes should be fine, have fun.

Yes I did get collared for being to "dressagey" lol I had a white numnah , black long jacket and ribbers on the bit....
