Anyone use one of the turn out hoods as made by Snuggy hoods (or any other make!)

Are they the pull on ones?
Yes seen them used - very effective - little or no mane rubbing to my knowledge.
As long as your hoss doesn't mind wearing his balaclava i say go for it - bound to save time!

Yeah my mum used to use one on my grey mare before i discovered rugs with hoods (easier to use). Gem didn't mind wearing one at all and they really kept the mud off. Only a couple of things i didn't like:
* They aren't fully waterproof
* My mare has a large head and i had to cut the ear holes larger!
* By the time she was fully grown the large size was a little too small and i felt it was a bit tight
* If your horse is awkward at things being pulled over its head it won't like it at all as they can be a bit fiddly till you get the hang of getting it on straight!!!

The only thing i miss about it is that my mare has a habit of rubbing her forelock in the mud and it's hell to get it out. The hood stopped this although sometimes she did manage to her forelock to poke out the ear holes!!!

Yes I've had one for the last 4 years! It's fantastic. I was so fed up with my grey having a yellow head!!

I agree, they're not 100% waterproof, but I actually have a combo rug over the neck part anyway, so only use it to keep his head clean and stop his mane and chest being rubbed (he's very sensitive!)

I love mine and wouldn't be without it. It's never budged and still looks practically new. The only alteration I had to make was get more fleece sown into the nose as it rubbed, but I'm not kidding when I say EVERYTHING rubs my horse! Even his martingale! Several people at my yard are buying them for their horses theis winter. Everyone I know with one wouldn't be without it! If you are worried about pulling it over their heads, they do make them with zips.

On a cautionary note, some people posted last year about horses panicing in the field if one of these slipped over their eyes and going through fences etc. For this reason, I use a neck cover attached to the rug but wouldn't risk a hood over the face (even though I have a grey!)

As Hornby says, we lost a horse because of one of these damned things....would never, ever use one which goes over the face again
