So I am going to turn both my horses out overnight tonight and have them in through the day. Multiple reasons this suits me better and saves me time.
Anyway! No one else has flipped around yet (or going to not sure) so it will just be my 2 out and I’m a bit nervous!
I am torn between having them in the same field (fields aren’t massive, large paddocks more like) I have a 14.2 and a 16.2 - the 14.2 gelding can be a bit pushy with the mare especially if other horses out I.e not letting her near the gate etc and she can get herself a bit worried being with him. Although they will be the only pair out and he doesn’t seem to be as bad towards her alone!
Or they have their own fields however my mares is down the front of the yard and my geldings is up the back - this is fine during the day they can see each other but my concern is at night they won’t be able to and they will also be in fields alone.
Do you think it’s best to try them in the same field for the night? I was going to drive down the road next to the yard about 10pm tonight to check everything is going ok with them but without them seeing me!

Mine go out overnight alot I just have 2 at home I won't put them out alone at night, so in your situation I would put them out together and put some hay out for them if not much grass.

I'm still giving hay in the field for mine at the moment as it's been dropping down at night.
I'd agree with this, that said one year i had two that were just too rough together and I did fence the small field in half and tied haynets near the fence next too each other so they were together but the old boy was safe and could eat and that worked well.
Make sure the hay is in plenty of piles and spread will around
