Turnberry - Strange event, very compact felt more like a PC event but with a BE course obviously! XC is just in 2 fields but a nice course.

Arrived with plenty of time to try & get himself settled, didn't work! It's never reassuring when they try to get you off in the stressage warm up!

Anyway's he did a tense test for a fair 40, could have been much better & much worse!

SJ - OH MY GOD there's a tent/tannoy/stewards/caravan/brolly's - you get the idea, he was a little looky!

So apparently I did well to sit half of his jumps! He got 2 poles & 1 refusal as a girl walked up to the fance line with a big pink golf brolly!

XC - napped badly after the start box coming into 1 (more brolly's!) but got his attenton in time, jumped 1 - 4 like a pro (1 steeplechase, 2 log, 3 barrels 4 chair) Got 2 refusals at 5 a palisade that caused a few refusals not sure why, you could see through it so perhaps that was why?

Flew a decent palisade with log/mock ditch in front. Popped up the step & skinny log combo at 7ab. Napped away from the fence judge at a skinny log at 8 but got his attenton in time again.

Sailed over butter barrels & pansy's at 9, ski jump at 10 despite a mini bulldozer parked next to it!

cleared 11 by miles, a palisade hanging log strange combo, I tried to steady for the water & house at 12, he was having none of it & powered straight through with me

.

Popped the rails at 13, run out at the biscuit fence at 14 A palisade with log ends all over it.

Then flew home like a star, with a slight look at the last but I was damned if I was getting a big fat

E there! We got just under 30 time faults

but I trotted down the hill as it was tipping down & we had 3 refusals & some napping but I'm confident once he knows the job he'll make it easily.

All I was aiming for was to complete, so thrilled to bits with pony & will post pro pics once they are up.

Met the lovely Noodlejaffa and her boys again (see you at Gleneagles!)

Oi, where'e everyone elses Turnberry reports!

Congratulations! I was at Turnberry too. Had a good day but I think we got the better of the weather in the afternoon. The ground held up well, though was a little boggy in places. Like after the skijump, I had no brakes, just managed to get control before the spread. Thought it was a good event though, will go back next year if they have a Novice track. Parking on the hard standing was just brilliant after the last few events in the mud!

Agree, hardstanding was much appreciated!

Nice course & handy for us, just over an hour by lorry so will possibly be back next year too.

GB- Never say never, he certainly has the scope for it

Party at your tent or mine?!

Thanks everyone, I'm so chuffed with him. Especially as the weather was awful. Thank Goodness the ground held up incredibly well.

Err sorry no Turnberry report from me was busy drying out!! Well done Nic, Sorry I didnt come in search of you & Noodlejaffa it wasnt the best of chatting weather. Anyway we had a great day. My OH & my young horse were having their 2nd Intro outing. His dressage was NEARLY very very nice but a ride set out from the riding school up the road just as he started his test so there was a bit of gawping going on. Anyway got 30.5 which was still best in arena!! Mind you plenty of critisism on test sheet, dread to think what she wrote on some peoples sheets if this was the test she liked the best.... Show jumping was errr..rapid... 4 faults (an expensive 4 faults it turned out) then skipped clear XC. So, after many hours of score board watching he was 2nd. Woo hoo. Very pleased although there is always a bit of 'if only' syndrome. Of course came home bursting with 'plans' for the next stage of this horse's career and guess what we have been balloted out of Allerton....boo

So will be heading all the way down there with just 1 horse, how annoying. Best laid plans and all that

Apparently Turnberry are hoping to run a spring event as well as an Autumn one & plans are afoot to get 'bigger & better'.

Oooh that's great! Well done to your OH, I was warming up when the ride set off, cue more bouncing from my pony!

Fab news they are planning a spring one, the great ground & hard standing parking would make it ideal for an early one.

Eeep, good Luck at Aswanly!

I'll post pro pics when they are up, then you'll know what I look like (muddy!). I'll PM you my no when section lists go up.

Yes, well done! Just spending a second day drying out as I've been with my trainer all day in the sodding rain!

Despite having to leave at 3.30am to get there (not amused) my new boy survived the experience. Went ballistic in the dressage and came away with the worst score I've ever had. He just could not figure out what was going on (but I know he can do it so practice makes perfect). SJ started well, refusal at first scary filler, then popped it, then mega refusal at second scary filler, then flew the rest. Cross country he was just fantastic, given it was only his second ever run xc. Stop at No. 5 (nasty pallisade thing Nic01 mentioned), but still came in under time and was clear the rest. Really chuffed with him.

Six year old came away with dr of 31.6, despite the rain pouring off the top of my hat when I saluted at the end! Not sure what happened in the sj as he's been jumping brilliantly recently and was foot perfect today in training, but we mucked it up big time. Flew round the xc, clear and within time, in fact he found it just a bit too easy. If only we could sort out the sj - he'd have been 2nd otherwise.

Good to see Nic01 out and about again on horseback, and hopefully at Gleneagles we won't be discussing how many items of spare clothing we'd taken with us to change into!!!
