My horse has been turned away for 2 months. I check on him from the gate every day but don't pay him too much attention as he gets a bit stressy when I leave.

He was turned away post surgery on his stifle. He is not out of the woods yet, I have to see how he copes when I bring him back into work.

My question is...how do your horses change once they have been turned away, if they change at all.

Mine was quite a stressy horse beforehand. Just wondered if I can expect the same horse back.

I've always found that a break does them good, mine (now and previous horses) have had time of ranging from a month or so with bad weather to 6 months when I was pregnant and every time they come back more relaxed and happy than before. But all horses are individual so may react differently.
I've always got them in a few times a week for a brush/ detailed check over to keep our relationship

I can't bring mine in. It's 8 weeks complete field rest. I must admit he has got used to his new life. As long as I don't hang around the field. He is with another horse who lives out

My tb has to be turned away till february. I was wondering the same thing, do they come back different mentally? is it hard for them to switch back into work mode? I suppose it varies for each horse. But i haven't a clue how mine will react, he's never had such a long break just turned out.

I'm hoping mine comes back more chilled as he can't be lunged before I ride him due to his injury, so the more chilled the better
