Turning away for the winter

I am looking at buying myself a horse. Currently I have a horse on free loan for the last 5 months but her owner wishes to sell now, so I am looking to replace her. I am still a bit of a novice on the terminology and many of the adverts say "turned away for the winter " can anyone tell me what this means, or does it mean different things to different people?

Turned away for the winter usually means that it has been turned out in the field for the winter period and has not been ridden.

What about buying the horse you have on loan??

Thank you. That makes things a little clearer for me.

Can I ask then why am I told by other yardies that I should stable my horse over the winter because it is too cold to be out? Bearing in mind my mare is a cob x fell. None of the other yardies will leave their horses out during the winter.

The owner wants £3000 for the horse my budget won' t stretch that far unfortunately.
