Turning horse out over night v's in the day

My yard will accommodate all ways of turnout but their usual regime is winter in at night, summer in during the day.

This works well for me because I ride in the morning. My pony is dry in winter and in summer has had breakfast and a sleep by the time I arrive. He hates the heat and nearly got heatstroke once. I thought it was an ordinary hot day. None of my previous horses would have been bothered but he is more sensitive.

im at the yard where we switching from may/october to night turnout and in during the day. My pony doesn’t like it, I drove couple of times around 9-10 o’clock and he’s waiting by the gate calling. I go to get him in the morning and he’s literally trotting all the way to the stable, he also gets sleep deprived as our yard is quite busy with riding school so he seems don’t get much rest.
I don’t like it, I don’t find it easier with yard jobs in fact I’m finding it more tricky to conjunction with my job(groom doesn’t operate in summer turn out) my pony is a lazy type so I have to really push to get much out of him because he’s not resting like he would in the stable at night.
Unfortunately that’s the yard rules so I have to go along as he would be on his own out during the day and in overnight therefore I’m looking to move. I’m waiting for space to come up at yard nearby where they only do day turnout or they will group horses together if owners prefer to have them out at night/day.

I turn out overnight, works for me as I get the horses in after the school run, they’re then in all day so I can ride/vet/farrier/groom during my working day (I work from home) and then they get turned out afternoon or evening. My RA means I can’t survive on little sleep but my ASD child also means I can’t get to bed before 10pm so it works really well for me.

Also my ladies are old and one is asthmatic so they do better out.

My horse used to enjoy her snooze during the day when she was in but we were on a quiet yard so once we left them there was no activity ,

Mine are out at night from 7.30 pm-7.30am mainly because of the grass being lower sugar at night. They have done this all last winter and I have managed to keep it through spring without either of my previously ems/pssm ponies getting lami. They are closed in to a hardstanding and barn in the daytime where they enjoy a snooze but they also take themselves in there for a sleep at some point during the night. I like that I don’t feel I have to rush to let them out in the morning or that they are standing overnight with nothing to eat. They are also already in for me to ride/groom. I feel they have more time moving around in this regime and neither have put weight on going in to summer. In the past I have swapped round in summer and winter but now I keep that routine all year round as I can also keep them off thawing frosty grass that way

I do like the idea, but what to do if you have a good doer like mine and very rich grazing, my routine is in at night and out during the day this way I can monitor that he has around 8 to 9 hours grazing if I swapped to out at night that would double his grazing time I would be worried to take the risk. The down side to this is the other livery owners either leave out all the time or in during the day and out at night so at night he is on his own in the stables but he is not bothered by that so how do other do with good doers and rich grass ?

Muzzle.

Grass is lower in sugar at night anyway.

Thanks for the suggestion but there is not a muzzle made that he would not remove, and agree sugar is lower at night the trouble with our set up is the grass is just so lush and there is so much of it.

Mine stay in at night and out in the day all year round. They are good doers and I find it easier to manage their weight this way. I did try out overnight in the summer once when I had a livery at home who wanted to do it, but it just didn’t seem to work - they got fat and very tired! Plus I didn’t find the jobs any easier overall. I accept I’m an odd one out though and it works for most!
