Hello all,

Quick intro as new to the forum, I have joined to get some opinions on my current situation and also to have a good natter as now signed of work for 6 weeks and no riding for 3 months. I have a 7yr TB Mare who has done flat and hurdles, brought her nearly a year ago and everything seems to be going the right direction.

Right now fr content of thread,

4days ago i had spinal surgery which sadly means i cannot ride for 3 months. So I have come to the very hard decision that I am going to turn my mare away with the 'girls' heard and bring her in and start again in March. This has been hard to do as I do not know how this will affect her, She loves coming in over winter and beeing fussed and general human contact. However she does have her very mareish side and she rears when being brought in at the moment and when ridden she has diva-ish tantrums.

My fear is that turnjing her away for this period of time will make it worse? I wondered what everyones opnion is, I do realise that I do not have much of a choice but want to know that this is the right thing to do.

Many Thanks

Flo

You dont really have a choice, if she is not easy a sharer or loan may be worse options. Turning her away, if she is in a settled herd situation may be just what she needs to grow up and stop being a diva, it wont hurt her to be out and she may come back in a more sensible girl. It also means you dont have to be dealing with her in the worst of the winter.

Turning my mare away due to her injury seems to have made her better... I think she got really bored standing in the field, so she doesn't mind being taken to the school now.

Thanks for the replies. Having thought it through again today I do feel that it is for the best I just upset that the decisions seem to have been made over my head to start with (as if I am unable do to the operation I have just undergone)

But I will make sure that I can go and see my mare as much as possible and then come March start afresh!! And hopefully with a well behaved mare.

I just hope she understands:rolleyes:
