Well . . . I've bitten the bullet and done it . . . he is now out overnight about four nights a week. While he's adjusting, I am bringing him in the night before he has to work particularly hard b/c he is so very tired, but I have been able to ditch the linseed and he's down to one hard feed a day on the days he is out b/c the grass is so good and he is now nice and covered :). Saving me a fortune in hay - not to mention not having to muck out so often.

He was so chilled yesterday morning that he was lying down when I went to bring him in - and didn't get up even when I sat down next to him :). That's the first time in 3+ years (since I bought him).

Its such a nice feeling that you dont 'have' to dash to deal with a horse when its in, nor 'have' to do the mucking out etc :)
The Fuzzies do like 'helping' with the poo-picking tho :D
Mine have been out fully for 4 weeks now & the hay I have saved is brilliant news :D
HF is often spotted having flat-out kips, TF hogs her field shelter if the sun is out & FLF who came 2 weeks ago is chuffed at not having to wade through clay (thats what she was on at home).

Spent a good few mins after riding this morning, having a cuppa & just watching the 3 of them snoozling or mooching - lovely

Ha ha . . . yes, watching them is addictive - totally agree. Kal likes to "help" with the poo picking too - which generally means waiting until the wheelbarrow is full and then tipping it over ;).

Sounds good. So lovely when they're down in the morning and really not inclined to get up.

I have NEVER seen him that chilled - and his two fieldmates were standing guard - very cute (esp as he's only been in that field for a couple of weeks).

He's out tonight and tomorrow, but will be in Monday just to give him a chance to have a proper sleep.

I wish i could get my guys out. The weather here has been awful its raining every day and the paddocks are still recovering from the trashing they received over the winter. At the moment my 2 are still coming in hungry and eating 3 leaves of hay a night for fun.
