Would love to, but its just so cold still & TBH we still have no grass at all.
Mine still has 3 rugs on!!
I imagine it will be mid May time unless weather improves drastically.
Ours are out now! We have plenty of grass this year as we have an extra 6 acres and the girls love being out at night. Was cold last night but suitable rugged. When it gets hot they will come in for the midday hours and then out at night again.
Ours normally go out for summer around May 1st, but the fields are so wet that I reckon it'll be the end of May before they can go out on summer grazing
4 of mine live out all the time, but they're still in winter paddocks, haven't let them loose in the big summer paddocks yet, waiting for grass to come through a bit more, was fertilised last week. hay supply is about to dry up though, eek.
i hate this time of year, changing rugs all the time. they need the winter ones overnight (we had a hard frost last night) but then suddenly the temp can rise and they're sweating... so i take all the rugs off, only for a sudden rain shower to drench them all...
our are out now with rugs on, and will stay out until it turns too hot and then they will be in between 11 and 3.
I event and my sister SJ's off grass and a feed balancer! our grass is reasonably good though.
Im waiting for my grass to dry up, its nasty in my field and my poor boy has mud fever
Cant wait for him to go out 24/7 though cos he costs me a fortune in hay and bedding! (and I can have a little lay in on a weekend!) lol
I usually turnout as early as poss and bring in as late as poss to save time / money and generally horses are happier but after accumulating a fully clipped, skinny TBx I had to keep him in
Mine are all chucked out now and we've opened our second field up so they now have 12 acres to run about in! Fortunateloy is a billy hilly so not too wet. They do have rugs on though (mine is fully clipped out in winter wand is then stabled) but if warm they are taken off during the day. They are all losing their coats so it must be warm enough in their minds!
they still get fed twice a day and get hay thrown out as not tonnes of grass yet but to be honest i don't think they're that bothered.
ours went out last week when it got mild and even though the temp has dropped they are all fine - even the two Tbs who are only in med weight rugs..! Was going to bring them back in over the weekend when it got cold but they were toasty and when they come in for tea they are desperate to get back out. We put hay out at night but its not all being eaten so they are obvioulsy eating enough from the little grss that is coming through.-
