Are they worth the money?

Horse has always suffered a touch of the mud fever. This year is no worse, but starting to wonder if investing in some turnout chaps might be of benefit? Not thinking of using them once mud fever has set in, as i'm sure covering it up would harbour the bacteria and probably make things worse.... I'm thinking more as a preventative measure before it starts, in late autumn/early winter before it gets too wet and the mud starts to accumulate.

Thoughts from those who use them regularly, have had success/failure with them with regard to the dreaded fever?

I've got a couple of sets but never use now. Found the sportabac ones made legs really hot & the equilibrium ones were better but the mud worked its way up from the bottom. Mine had mudfever for several winters in a row,I used to hose his legs every night when coming in but on the advice of a friend stopped doing this & now apply pig oil every month to keep the mud off & he never had mudfever again.

I use the Castle Turnout Socks, which are similar to Sportabac I think. £24.99 and do a great job. No mud Fever since I started them. I agree about hosing. It seemed to make my boys legs worse and dry out
