Is there an accepted turnout for American Paint horses? As in, are they trimmed and plaited? I know he's 'just' a skewbald and I can pull/cut and plait if I want, but the horse I bought to replace the hedge jumper in my avatar is so clearly a paint, that I would rather let his mane grow if that's the 'right' thing.

I have a mental image of horse a long flowing mane and a head collar with Native American bead work :D
Sorry..I watched too many westerns as a child :o :D

Either is fine. All of mine have long flowing manes but if they were showing western pleasure or whatever then they would have a tidy short pulled mane. Tails are almost never pulled or banged where I live. AQHAs and APHAs are usually left with naturally flowing tails. Show APHAs/QHs are usually preened and have all facial hair trimmed and ears trimmed, any feathers are usually trimmed/clipped. Often they will have a fair sized bridlepath too.

My own horses do not get trimmed anywhere, except when their tails are trailing along the ground I will shorten them a little bit so they don't tread on them.

I suppose it depends on what you plan on doing, I would turn out as I would any horse unless doing specific type or breed classes, he is a smart horse I think it would let him down to let it all be long and flowing, unless you join in and wear a pair of jeans, cowboy boots and a stetson!!!

I haven't ruled it out :D
