Just to mix things up a bit I have signed up to do an unaffliated intro test with my boy. I assume I will need to do a running plait on his mane but is there anything else i need to consider turnout wise?

Have a tweed jacket, beige jods, shirt and tie, black boots and hat. What colour gloves? Can you carry a schooling whip?

It will be comedy enough without me getting the turnout wrong too!

You would normally need white gloves but our local dressage doesn’t bother too much and other than that you should be ok, you don’t actually need to plait for unaffiliated dressage.

If you type in British dressage rules it will tell you everything you need to know, I would put up a link but my PC is messing about.

Hope that helps and good luck.

I don't plait my lad for unaffiliated. Leave him eu-natural and always get good comments....alongside the sarcastic one's...'energetic entrance' 'working canter a tad speedy' etc etc!!!:D Good luck, love to see a hairy coblet showing off in dressage!!

The white glove rule is no longer in operation. It is gloves must be worn preferably of a light colour. There is no rule saying horses have to be plaited so with a traditional I would brush the mane throughly and go like that.

Your traditional cob should be turned out as you would show him - so well brushed clean mane and tail. You could add a narrow long plait behind the ear, the way welsh ponies and cobs are shown, neatly sewn at the bottom.
I haven't yet seen a running plait that improved the look of any horse!
I have no idea when a running plait is correct... maybe for some continental natives?

A friend competes at BD elem on her trad hairy coloured cob. She has been to the finals at Hartpury a few times.

She does a running plait down his crest as otherwise his mane gets in her way, esp now she uses a double bridle. He also has a huge golfball forelock plait. He has full feathers and tail, can't remember if she plaits the tail.

She wears tweed, shirt and tie up to novice and navy at elem.
