Can anyone help please, I have a 14.1hh very round broad cob, she normally would not wear a rug but needs something to keep the wind and rain off as she lives out 24/7, she doesn't need warmth. If she was the perfect thin shape she would probably wear a 6' rug, however as she is so broad around the chest, cresty neck and wide bottom she actually needs a 6'6"or if the rug is generous a 6'3" (I have even put a 6'9" on her once). I have tried Amigo, Fal, Chaskit, and at the moment a Weatherbeeta Freestyle, but the moment she rolls, she breaks something on the rug. I do find the ones without the leg straps just flip up at the back, so legs straps would be better, is there anyone out there who has this problem and how have they got around it. I'd be grateful for any advice, as she is breaking rugs within a couple of days of wearing them. If the weather was drier she would go with out a rug, keeping her in isn't an option as she has breathing problems. We are also extremely exposed so I feel better if she has a rug on. Are there any rugs out there that are designed to fit a round ball shaped horse and something that is not too expensive, help please.!!!!:

TBH, if she's got a decent coat on her I'd leave her rugless 24/7. My boy was all year last winter, he didn't have any problems.

In regards to rugs that fit wide cobs, the only one I've found to fit my boy round the chest (so far) is Rhino. Fab rug. Weatherbeeta, Saxon, Shires, Requisite, Masta and HY were all useless.

I have a 14.3hh very broad cob and he wears 6'3" Saxon and Weatherbeeta rugs and they fit him well (although the Saxon doesn't have any depth). I have just bought him a Black Eclipse 80g lightweight turnout rug off of eBay and its a really nice fit. Nice roomy neck (my cob has a very thick neck!) and plenty of depth and 1200 denier.

I'd also suggest Lansdown and their canvas rugs with a Papes (Y fastening) if they still do them. They take the strain in a different way, have big shoulder darts and you can specify a bigger neck size (my horse had smaller neck size) relative to the length of the rug. Not cheap but they last and last.
