Hi all, my new mare seems to be a bit of a rug trasher so I have a couple of turnouts which need repairing. She had got L shaped tears in them but seems a shame to bin them as they are otherwise in good order. Just wondering best way to repair myself, can I just stick a patch over that area or is it more work than that? What type of glue is the best to bond the patch with? Any suggestions and photos would be much appreciated.

For small repairs I hand stitch then use Stormsure glue to cover the stitching to seal it.

For larger repairs I use Storsure to glue a patch over the damaged area making sure to coat the edges with the Stormsure too :)

There's a fab product called Tear Aid. It's a see through self adhesive tape that is mega sticky and sticks to just about anything. You do need to clean the rug up well first, but it's brilliant!

Wilkinsons have a range of fabric glues, much cheaper than Stormsure. Has anyone tried them? I tried the waterproof fabric one, and also the leather one, supposed to be waterproof, results not too brilliant but I may have not cleaned it up enough. Anyone else?

For short term repairs good old silver duck tape works well, I've had small (4/8 inch) rips that have been kept waterproof all winter with duck tape (sometimes replaced once a month) then the saddler repairs them in the spring when the rugs goes for cleaning anyway. A repair usually adds £8/10 to the cleaning cost.
