My horse is currently wearing a 40g PE turnout, but is looking noticeably cold in the current weather - she's a thin-skinned TB type and as much as I don't want to rug her in anything heavy at this time of year, I think I need to admit that she needs a bit more fill!
Her next "rug up" is a 200g PE, which is too heavy for now - it might just be me but I feel PE rugs are more generous in weight than other brands. I just bought a 75g Swish combo as a compromise between the two but it has just arrived and seems the same weight as her 40g PE, so is sadly going back.

I've been looking for a turnout combo with 100g / 150g fill but can't seem to find any! - has anyone seen any on their winter rug shopping rounds?

As much as I would like to purchase yet another PE, the 100g is £150 and as said horse has already spent 90% of my month's wages on vets bills I'd prefer something a little more affordable if possible as I'm sure it won't be long until it gets colder. Would be very grateful for any suggestions! x

Could you pop a fleece underneath? Save you some money in the long run...

I dont think there is such a big difference between the 150 and 200 g rugs..

Its set to be warm again wed-thurs up to 16 degrees..

I use the Amigo bravo (1200 denier) rugs- and the Amigo hero (600 denier)..
The heavier/stronger 1200 denier outer is heavier and therefore a bit warmer..
Might be an option to look at-U can also add rugs to them to up the warmth..

I think these are great value for money...

Good luck :-)

I have a 70g PE outer, and use the 100g liners :) Could you not do that? The outer doesnt have to be part of the liner system, they still work, I use mine under other brands of rugs too.

Thanks everyone - will take a look at the Amigos as I know they fit her well.
I did consider a liner but haven't used one before as she's very active out in the field and I've always been concerned about them moving around and slipping sideways - do they stay put? As that would be a very obvious & easy option!

thanks starry_eyes (good username!!!) - I haven't had a Shires before but good to know they fit the TB types, will look at that one too x

Weatherbeeta do a 100g turnout with standard neck or combo. They call it a medium-lite and the freestyle 1200D version is navy and red.

Amigo do the Bravo 12 in 100g but the neck cover is detachable.

Have use my Rambo Duo liner under several rugs that don't have the square rings on the neck to attach it to (though you can buy these rings on ebay and sew to your existing rug if concerned) and they have never moved. The clips at the back clip to leg strap rings and keep the liners very stable.

The 100g Shires Tempest is a nice rug and good value, i think my combo was about £50 ish

Loveson also make a 100g, it was the rug i used the most last year. it was also around £50

The physical heaviness and make up of the fillings vary, a 75g may look the same as a 40g but it will be warmer for sure

Does anyone happen to know if these are a good fit on little ponies? I was looking at them today. I need one around 100gm for the little companion pony who lives with me.

Been looking at rugs today, I think Saxon do a 100g one. Try checking out robinsons own rugs too they tend to be pretty cheap. Protuff rugs are good value for money if they have what you want in.

Otherwise have you tried checking eBay or preloved?

OP, do try the inners for PE rugs, I've had them on 3 very 'active' Fuzzies & not had probs.
Not only do they have the top of the shoulder velcro, they have the front & also a clip on both rear quarters too where the fillet string clips on. Not had any come off, or undone yet :)

The 100g liner is great inside the Trio, or any of the others & I've used it happily under the 40g Titan too. So much easier than lots of extra rugs :)

I use the rambo duo 100g liner under my PE rugs. It has a velcro chest strap and then two trigger clips on the back that can attach to the PE rug where the fillet string is so it can't move. Alternatively Mark Todd do the 150g Autumner rug which is also a lovely rug.
