turnout rugs

my pony came with an oldish lightweight turnout rug which is no longer waterproof. i've washed and proofed it in my machine and it still wasnt waterproof. i then re-did it by hand and used the spray on waterproofing, all nikwax products, and it still leaks. do rugs hve a life span where they are just no longer water proof anymore? debating whether to ditch it and buy a new one. shame really coz its in lovely condition and fits perfectly. i have probably already spent the cost of a new rug on the nikwax products and dont want to spend anymore sending it away to be cleaned.

I'd buy a new one. ride away and fast tack direct have some great rugs at great prices.

i think i will buy a new one. i've kitted him out with 2 new medium weights one with a separate neck cover, he's got a heavyweight combo for emergencies (wore it twice last yr in torrential rain and howling winds) so i guess its time he had a new lightweight. he lives out all yr 24/7 so rugs are a must!!! i like the JHL ones on him, they seem to fit perfectly and are really deep.
