Turnout Sheets That Don't Soak Through Easily ?

I want a sheet for Ethel to wear when it's windy and a bit rainy, the one she has is a Shires Tempist Lite and it soaks through quite easily. So, can anyone reccomend a sheet that will not soak through with a bit of rain?
 
You need to buy something that has a minimum 1200D ripstop outer. Anything else is just showerproof.

Amigo do one, which is very reasonably priced.
 
I have the shires one and always found it fine even in heavy constant rain however I do have another rain sheet/lw (no idea what make i bought it second hand) and it was totally not waterproof so we waterproofed it with Nikwax waterproofer and it has been superb so might be worth trying this before shelling out for a new rug?
 
Okay thank you guys, I was thinking of just getting a waterproofer to make it more waterproof, so which one is the best waterproofer? :D
 
I have both the Shires and Amigo, and IMO the shires one is pants :X

Ditto everyone else on Amigo though, I find it brilliant.

Was just going to say the excat same thing the 600Dense light weights light the weatherbeta Landa and the masta zing are all the same, shower proof just about but constant rain No.

Masta have a light weight one now, I've just got from Robinsons £80 and weatherbeta Orian come in light weight and theres the amigo one to.

in terms of waterproofers I don't use an actual rug one but I use Thomsons Water Sheild, the one orginial one that can be used on cavas tents, smells a bit but wears off after a couple of wears.
 
I used the tent waterproofer from Nikwax, (we are in spain and have fun trying to get such things...) and it has really re-waterproofed my 2 old Horsewear shower sheets and a heavyweight Pessoa. Cost (in total) about 40 quid, took 15 min.

That looks like the one - mine is grey with yellow trim and it's brilliant. Had to eat my words I really didn't want to buy one but it was all the shop had when I needed it quickly. I had always thought they looked very thin and the colours were truly awful, but I managed to get a reasonable colour and it's never, not once, let the rain in. I have it washed and reproofed (by Izzwizz) and last time lots of people thought it was a brand new rug it looked that good:D

This is the 600D one which I would not recommend for 24/7 turnout, you really want higher density one like this one (although this is the medium weight they do the exact same in light weight)

Get the 1200D Amigo if you are buying one, its great.

My 600D Amigo, on the other hand, is only useful if you want a sponge - highly absorbent and guarantees to soak your horse and then make sure he stays wet far longer than if he didnt have a rug at all :rolleyes:
 
Mark Todd 100%. never had one leak. some of mine let a little bit in now where they've been patched from being ripped by thug horses, but even then not very much and i've never had them reproofed.

i have a 600D amigo and it does keep mine dry, ok it prob would leak eventually if it got rained on all day, but they all do to a certain extent. i have used mine for heavy rain and horse stayed dry!

my pony has a rambo supreme lite which is very good, but you would hope so at £230!!!!
 
I love my JHL it has a double linigng meaning it doesn't get as wet so easily and seems really good quality. Couple of peeps on our yard have amigos but I do prefer my JHL as it is a lovely colour and not everyone has one
 
I've got a Jumpers Horseline lightweight rug which is lovely and hasn't leaked so far... best bit was I bought it at Burghley for £20, bargain :D
 
I have an amigo one which is good but also have a cheap saxon one that is also fab, my girl was out in it all day today in pouring rain and she came in dry as a bone.
